As with certain other nuvis, the 1390 also features an "ecoRoute" option, which when used, will calculate fuel costs and then offer alternative routes which are likely to be more fuel efficient. The unit also sports an easy to read 4.3 inch screen which has been designed so that displayed data or maps are easy to see even in bright light or sunshine.

City Navigator maps covering the entire United States as well as Canada are preloaded, and of course your lifetime updates mean you'll always be able to get the very latest navigation data, maps, and places of interest.

Request a route to a specific destination, and you'll be taken directly there by way of turn-by-turn directions, together with voice commands. Other noteworthy features include Bluetooth technology which allows for hands-free call, and ecoRoute feature, and a very helpful lane-assist feature which prompts you to switch lanes when necessary.

As with most of the Garmin nuvis, the 1390 comes with a friction mount which allows you to mount the unit of the dash of your vehicle for easy navigation. The unit also comes with an EVA carry case which is ideal when you're traveling around on foot.

Unlike many other portable GPS devices, the free lifetime upgrades you receive with the Garmin nuvi 1390 can be downloaded every four months, which means your maps and navigation data will always be the very latest and most up to date.

Users have the option of having directions displayed on the screen or announced via turn-by-turn voice commands, and of course interacting with the unit is incredibly easy since it features state of the art voice recognition software. Also, with over 6 million POI's included in the 2D and 3D City Navigator maps, no city need ever be boring again.

Not everyone wants to drive themselves around when visiting strange cities, be it on holiday, or be it on business, and this is something Garmin have well and truly taken into account. To begin with, the nuvi 1390 is small enough to fit snugly into the average sized pocket, but this isn't the only thing that makes this unit ideal for foot travelers. To the contrary, the cityXplorer feature makes it unimaginably easy to navigate your way around any city using the city's public transport networks, including buses, trains, subways, and trams.

Should you ever find yourself lost, the "where am I" feature can be used to immediately pinpoint your exact location, and if you're in a vehicle, the ecoRoute feature can be used to calculate fuel usage for a particular route, and even to suggest alternative routes which are likely to be more fuel efficient.

As with several other nuvis, the 1390 also features things like a currency converter, unit converter, and even a JPEG picture view, thereby making it an extremely versatile unit. Pictures and maps are displayed in absolute clarity and in vibrant colors, and due to the design of the 4.3 inch screen, images can be viewed even when outdoors in full sun.

When traveling on motorways, it's all too easy to miss an exit if you're in the wrong lane, and especially when there is also plenty of other traffic on the road. With the Garmin nuvi 1390 on your vehicle's dash, missing junctions, intersections and exits becomes a thing of the past, thanks to the very hand "Lane Assist" feature which tells you in advance when to change langes.

With Bluetooth technology installed, your nuvi 1390LMT can be used to effortlessly make or receive hands-free calls. Both the microphone and speakers are of unsurpassed quality, and the easy to use touch screen means you never need to take your eyes of the road.

While there have no doubt been a few somewhat negative reviews, the vast majority have been extremely positive, with many consumers even going as far as to say the 1390 is the best portable GPS navigator on the markets. Even in those reviews which could be perceived as being negative, the complaints almost always concern very trivial issues, and certainly not anything serious enough to discredit the unit in any way.
