Garmin Nuvi 1450 Customer Reviews

Real Reviews Submitted by Real Users!

As someone who relies on GPS devices, I have been a fan of Garmin for a very long time. I bought quite a few of these for my company vans and the technicians couldn't be much happier.

The units I secured for my drivers are actually very useful. They feature a Lane Assist option which will instruct you on which lane you need to enter when getting onto the freeway. This will save you a lot of trouble and keep you from having to switch lanes at the last second. The speedometer in the GPS unit keeps track of your speed and much to our surprise it was actually quite a bit more accurate then the speedometers in our own vans.

The "Where am I" feature is actually quite useful. Pushing it will give you your current location which you will find to be helpful in the event you need help over the phone.

Traffic Alert is an included feature, but it is not the most useful. We're not sure how it works, but I suspect that it is intended for some of the heavier metropolitan areas that work in tandem to activate the feature.

All in all this is a great buy!

I recently bought this unit as a replacement for my Garmin Street Pilot C570. I used the previous GPS unit for more than three years, and I have to say that while I am pleased with this new device, I am not incredibly thrilled.

Differences from my Older Unit

While larger than I actually required, the screen is actually easier to see.

My job requires me to have a clean driving record, and the speed limit system in the unit actually helped quite a bit with that. It's not always accurate, especially if the speed limit has been changed recently.

Junction view is very helpful and tells you which lane to be in.

Satellite acquisition and view are extremely fast and reliable.

Differences from my old unit I consider downgrades:
There is no audio out jack which means I cannot listen to mp3's through the car stereo while I listen to music.

No male voice option for American English, but Jill is nice.

The volume control is in the menu screen rather than on the side of the unit. You can make changes in 10% increments, and you cannot mute the beeping sound that occurs when you press the buttons unless you fully mute the device.

The power cord is extremely thick, and the traffic receiver box is too near the end of the cord that plugs into the GPS unit - it hangs right over my car audio system when the GPS is mounted where I can best view it.

The power cord is thick, and the traffic receiver box actually hangs too close to the end of the cord. In other words unless you can secure it to the dash, it will more than likely hang over your car stereo.

As for the pop ups that occur on the unit, I could complain about them, but I won't simply because I read quite a few reviews warning about them.

I didn't use the Bluetooth feature on the older unit, but it does seem to work nicely on this one. It picks up a lot of noise, but this is to be expected.
