This a a great alternative to the 550/660/665 models, which are much higher priced than the 220 model. This unit
comes will all that you will need right out of the box for your motorcycle except for the RAM mount ball. It comes
is the GPS cradle with a RAM mount ball on the back. It also has a RAM mount 2'' extention bar. All you need to do
is put it on the 1'' RAM bar that you provide for your bike. I personally wired mine to the battery with the power
cord that came with it. This unit also comes with auto windshield mounting and it also comes with a cigarette
lighter power cord. Bluetooth only comes with directions only. There is no phone support for the Bluetooth. You'll
use the Bluetooth for your helmet communications system. The internal batter will charge if it's connected to the
bike's battery or the USB port. This is a great unit for the bikers!
I bought the Zumo 220, and I'm about to send it back. Although the unit works just fine , and the price is
right, the bluetooth option has been crippled. It doesn't support A2DP like the 660 and the 665 does. I don't think
the 550 supports it either; at least it isn't listed on the Garmin webpage to support it like the 660 or the 655
does.
I bought a Schuberth C3 and the Cardo headphones. I thought that the Zumo 220 was supposed to be the central hub
for everything. But the 220 doesn't link up with a phone. You have to buy the 660 or the 665 for that. I don't know
if the 550 does the job, but the manufacturer doesn't list it as A2DP compliant like the other models are.
I love the GPS. It mount is very easy to install and it works great. However, I had some issues with working the
GPS with gloved hands, although the packaging says that you should be able to use gloved hands. I found that the
bluetooth device worked well when I used it with the Scala Rider communication device. I love the mounting device
that is included for the care. I think that the hardware and the support pieces are great, and that they are
excellent quality. I'd say that the bikers should buy a case for the GPS. I put mine in a glove so that the glove
absorbs the shock when this is in my trunk bag.
4. I've only used my 220 model for a weekend of off road riding, but I loved it when I used it. I like
pinpointing spots on the map by latitude and by longitude. I can nail the spots within fractions of seconds and
degrees. I find it easy to use when I have my gloves on. It's weather resistant too, which means no plastic bags to
get in the way. The only bad point is that it took me a long time to learn how to map out routes on the GPS.
Also,it took me a while to learn how to record my trips to print out when I got home.
